SATB Violin Cello Piano
Written for Jeannie Pernal and the Grande Prairie Boys Choir, the piece was commissioned by the congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists). The text is found in Luke, I used only the first four verses (Luke 1:46-49). The piece begins with the traditional unison chant, and then moves to a rhythmic and joyful statement of the title text. Triple and duple elements are superimposed, and although this is easy for the singers, the audience has multiple layers to appreciate simultaneously. The recording here is from Podium 2016 in Edmonton, featuring the Grande Prairie Boys Choir, Jeannie Pernal conducting, Nicole Pernal (violin), Katherine Pernal (cello), and Carmen Bartel (piano).
