Abide With Me

TTBB a cappella

Originally arranged for Pro Coro Canada for a Canadian Forces Tribute concert in 2006, set for a cappella male choir. We performed this song without lyrics as a short interlude piece in the concert. It was a poignant moment in the concert in part because the melody is so familiar, without lyrics I believe it allowed each audience member to experience the music in a more personal manner: some with memory of the lyrics, some experiencing the melody, and for some the arrangement provided a new window for the song. This arrangement became the basis for two other versions: one for SATB with piano, and one for Saxophone and SATB a cappella. The arrangement with saxophone was inspired by PJ Perry and Doug Riley from their record “Come Sunday” and both PJ and Doug performed with us in the concert.
